Bemidji Community Food Shelf will be hosting an open house for anyone interested in volunteer opportunities 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 26 at the food shelf at 1260 Exchange Ave SE.
“This is intended for anyone curious about volunteering at the food shelf,” said VISTA worker Emily Schaeffer. “In addition to explaining the different positions, we will tour the food shelf, and the farm if weather permits.” Schaeffer is working at the food shelf for a year to help develop its volunteer program. She said that the food shelf has several distinct needs including seasonal farm work, rescuing food from area stores, interviewing customers, sample cooking and serving, warehouse work, and assisting customers in the store.
Those planning to attend should RSVP by calling 218-444-6580 and asking for Emily or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. The event will start in the food shelf conference room and attendees should enter through the west (employee) door. The food shelf is located in the Industrial Park, one long block east of the Eagles Club.
